Support the Southside SPCA

Become a donor or volunteer and help save lives

As an independent, donor-supported charity, we rely totally on the support of our donors and volunteers. Your efforts help us continue to make steady progress toward eliminating euthanasia of healthy animals and animal cruelty, neglect, and suffering in Southside Virginia. All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Make a Gift and Save a Life

Whether you donate online or by check, you will have the opportunity to become a recurring monthly donor. Monthly donations ensure that the Southside SPCA has the reliable source of income needed to rescue, care for, adopt, and spay/neuter as many animals as possible every day.

If you are including an “in honor” or “in memory” tribute with your donation via PayPal and want us to send an acknowledgement of your donation, you must include the name and address of the person(s) to receive the acknowledgement in the comment box on the PayPal donation form.

Gifts of Stocks, Bonds & Mutual Funds

You can help by donating appreciated stock, bonds and mutual funds directly to the Southside SPCA. Compared with donating cash or selling your appreciated securities and contributing the after-tax proceeds, you can increase your gift and tax deduction by donating them directly to the Southside SPCA.

If you are considering a donation of stock, bonds or mutual funds to the Southside SPCA, please contact the Southside SPCA’s financial advisor, Donte Smith, at (804) 225-6804 or at donte.smith2@ml.com.

Donations of Shelter Supplies

Caring for an average of 88 animals each day requires large quantities of dog and cat food, cleaning products, kitty litter, and blankets and towels, so donations of these supplies are always welcome and greatly appreciated.

Donations of supplies can be dropped off at any day at our shelter Sunday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. or at Tailwaggers Thrift Store on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Needed supplies:

  • Dog and cat food
  • Cleaning products
  • Kitty litter
  • Blankets
  • Towels

Donations of Vehicles

We gratefully accept donations of vehicles of any kind and in any condition within a 50-mile radius of Richmond. There is no cost to you, and your donation is tax deductible; however, you must have a clear title to the vehicle. There are three steps to the donation process:

STEP 1: Complete and submit the donation form linked below.

STEP 2: After you have submitted your vehicle information, Chesterfield Auto Parts will contact you to arrange pick-up for your vehicle. Your vehicle must be accessible by a roll-back tow truck.

STEP 3: You will receive a receipt for your vehicle after it has been picked up. Within 30-60 days after pickup, you will receive a letter and IRS Form 1098-C stating the amount received by the Southside SPCA from recycling or sale of the vehicle.

Visit Tailwaggers

Tailwaggers Thrift Store is operated entirely by volunteers, so all the proceeds from the Store’s sales go to support the Southside SPCA’s lifesaving work. Tailwaggers also benefits the Southside Virginia community by offering a wide variety of gently used, everyday merchandise at affordable, bargain prices; and donating unsold merchandise to local charities such as the local daycare centers, the local high school, and ARK Christian Academy.

You can help support Tailwaggers in one of three ways:

  • Donating your slightly used or unused items.
  • Volunteering your time to help with the Store’s operation.
  • Purchasing merchandise from the Store.
