Frequently Asked Questions

No. Our facilities are designed for companion animals. Please search for a rescue devoted to the animal species in question for help with animals other than dogs, cats, kittens and puppies.

Although we rescue and take in hundreds of animals each year, unfortunately, we cannot take in every unwanted dog or cat that is offered to us.   However, our New England transport program (“Homebound Hounds”) does permit us to take in all puppies offered for surrender.  Also, the county animal pounds will accept any unwanted pet, but unfortunately, unlike us, they are not no-kill facilities. We regularly visit the county pounds in our service area and rescue puppies and those adult animals that appear to be adoptable.  Since many of the animals that we are not able to take from the pounds are euthanized, we do all that we can to help pet owners keep their pets through education and assistance with food and supplies.  If you need assistance to keep your pet, please contact us and we will do our best to help.

We also offer spay/neuter assistance.

In addition to filling the demand for mixed breed puppies in New England, transporting puppies to New England for adoption serves our mission to reduce the over-population of unwanted dogs and cats in Southside Virginia in two important ways.  First, it ensures that the puppies will be spayed or neutered before they are adopted.  Second, it allows us to focus our efforts on finding good homes for the adult dogs that we rescue.
