Education
Educate Yourself and Your Community
Our efforts to educate the public in Southside Virginia about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets has done as much to reduce pet over-population and euthanasia rates in our service as our spay and neuter programs themselves. We use our website, newsletters, printed flyers, local events, fundraisers, and the media in our education campaign and continually look for ways to reach even more of the public.
We are particularly excited about a spay/neuter education initiative that we call the “Spay/Neuter Your Pet Month”. Local media are employed in a concentrated effort to encourage owners to participate by offering free spay/neuter services and publishing the contact information for participating vets. Our goal is to make this an annual event and expand the media coverage to include our entire service area.
We also use trained volunteer speakers who are available to appear at club, church, and schools to talk about responsible pet care, the importance of saying and neutering, and the work of the Southside SPCA. This is a free service, but donations are encouraged to support our work on behalf of the animals. If you are interested in having one of our volunteers speak to your group, please contact us.
